Beautiful antique 19th century continental European religious plaque in metal dated on the lower right corner 1889 along with the inscription “Mater Amabilis” on the bottom. Translated from Latin this means Mother Most Lovable and is a title of Our Lady in the Litany of Loreto (Mother Most Amiable). This unusual piece’s outer edge is decorated with vases on the bottom and a border with flowers. The central depiction is one of Mary holding Jesus with a pair of angels above. The plaque has age and weather related oxidation throughout as it was most likely a decorative piece from outside of a church or a nave. The quality is very fine and heavy for its size, at around 8 lbs!
